Bio

Rick Goetz started his career in entertainment as the bass player and manager for the funk band Dine-O-Matic while at New York University in the early 90s.  The band played out in New York City regularly for about three years, and members of the group went on to play and record with David Byrne, Amy Winehouse, The Roots, Public Enemy, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Antibalas and the Walkmen.  It was managing this group that lead him to an internship at Lava / Atlantic Records in 1995 where he stayed for six years, ultimately rising to the position of Director of A&R.

While at Lava, Goetz worked with artists such as Kid Rock, Matchbox 20, Sugar Ray and The Corrs. He was responsible for finding and developing new talent and made significant contributions to the marketing efforts of the label’s major acts by bringing in creative partners, sponsors and unconventional promotional strategies.

In 2001, with multiple labels bidding on his services, he left Lava / Atlantic for Elektra Entertainment Group becoming the label’s Sr. Director of A&R.  During his tenure at Elektra he worked with several developing artists as well as well established acts like Dream Theatre, Pantera and Damage Plan.  It was also during this period of time that Goetz began producing documentaries on “Outsider” music, several of which would gain him representation as a reality show producer with ICM and a partnership with the former head of programming at ABC developing new television shows.  One of these shows was given a developmental deal at VH1.

In 2003 Goetz left music to pursue opportunities in TV.  He worked on shows like “Sesame Street” and “Psychic Detectives” and continued to develop projects with various show runners.  In 2006 he signed on to run a digital only, internationally focused record label called Internationally Known that was in the EMI family of labels.  During his tenure at EMI, which was just under a year, he released over 300 albums, singles and music videos and was responsible for the distribution, marketing and clearance of these products.  In early 2007 the call of a variety of freelance opportunities led him to leave and found Rick Goetz Consulting LLC.

Since founding his own company Goetz has done everything from music supervision for national TV commercials, to creating and marketing corporate events, to building audio and video libraries for television networks and technology companies.
